LSWR Type 4 Signal Box

Introduced in late 1800s, with the last examples built by the Southern Railway up to 1928. Still in use during the BR period.

Presented in Old English Brick Bond or Purbeck stone and BR(S) building green, white and cream paintwork.

Footprint: 121 mm x 53 mm (125 x 61 incl. overhangs)

LSWR Type 1 or 4 Signal Box + Interior Material Kit

Contents:

  • 3 x 750 micron (0.75 mm) A4 Grey Board.
  • 4 x A4 Sticky Backed Paper for Ink Jet or Laser Printers.
  • 1 x 99 mm x 210 mm x 250 micron (0.25 mm) Transparent Sheet.
  • 250 mm x 1 mm diameter wire

You still need to print the model kits yourself and source adhesives.

Some kits require additional, standard, A4 white print paper that you probably already have to hand (not included).

DIY Material List (without interior)

  1. LSWR Type 4 Signal Box Kit (.pdf file)
  2. 3 x A4 Sticky Back 1 Label Sheets (recommended) . Otherwise, 3 x 80 g/m2 A4 Copier/Ink Jet White Paper and Paper Glue Stick.
  3. 1 x 80 g/m2 A4 Copier/Ink Jet White Paper
  4. 2 x 750 micron (0.75 mm)  A4 Grey Board* .
  5. 1 x clear acetate sheet or packaging for window glass (Ideally 250 micron, thinner is ok)
  6. Double Sided Tape (For window glass fixing, if not using sticky label sheet)
  7. Quick Drying PVA glue.
  8. 250 mm x 1 mm  wire (For down pipes)
  9. Humbrol No.30 green paint of similar.
  10. Cyanoacrylate glue.
  11. Artist Fixer Spray - To protect from potential ink runs due to moisture ingress if using water based ink.

* Grey Board is a thicker form of cardboard, usually made from recycled material. Available from eBay

  1. Scalpel with either spare blades or sharpening stone

  5. Black felt tip pen
  6. 0.7mm Diameter Drill Bit or Pin (For stove pipe fabrication and pilot roof hole)
  7. 2-3mm Diameter Drill Bit and Drill (For stove pipe roof hole)
  8. Tweezers or thin nosed electrical pliers (To aid step assembly)
  9. Wire cutters and small paint brush (For down pipe cutting and painting)
  10. Magnifying Glass
